CHICAGO EVENTS

In Chicago, we treat fun like a full time job. And there are more than enough enticing Chicago events to keep you busy all season long.

Spring and summer are the perfect time to visit the city — colorful scenery and bright sunshine mixed with warm temps make Chicago a popular destination to enjoy events both indoors and out. Plan your trip around Chicago’s biggest marquee events – taking over the calendar are Chicago Blues Festival, Chicago Gospel Music Festival, Taste of Chicago, and the Chicago Air and Water Show.

The events calendar in May also includes some heavy hitters on the creative front with CIMMfest: The Chicago International Movies & Music Festival and the Chicago Humanities Festival’s spring program, Stages, Sights & Sounds.

The month then kicks off the start of Chicago’s many neighborhood festivals — from cultural festivities such as Cinco de Mayo Festival in Little Village and Mayfest in Lincoln Square to gatherings for art, music and food such as the Festival del Taco, Millennium Art Festival and the Do Division Street Fest & Sidewalk Sale.

For the sports enthusiasts, a day at the ballpark is always an event. Singing the 7th inning stretch as the Chicago Cubs play at Wrigley Field and catching the home run fireworks when the Chicago White Sox win at US Cellular Park are favorite summer traditions. With a baseball season that runs March to September and two teams to root for, there’s plenty of opportunity to cheer on a home team.

In June, street festivals are in full swing. Every weekend you can gather with the locals as food, music, arts and culture combine in neighborhoods across the city. Andersonville Midsommarfest, Printers Row Lit Fest and Chinatown Dragon Boat Races are just a few of the fun options.

From classical music with the Grant Park Music Festival, to alfresco dance classes with Chicago SummerDance, to classic films and yoga in Millennium Park, free Chicago events take place daily and span the beautiful downtown green spaces.

The month is also a celebration of pride, and the ever-welcoming city puts on some of the biggest gay pride events in the nation. LGBT celebrations include the Chicago Pride Fest, Chicago’s Dyke March, and the Pride Parade.

Every day is jam packed with things to see and do in Chicago — search our Events Calendar below to find out what’s in store during your specific dates.
