2018 Sports Events & Races

Chicago is one of the all-time greatest sports cities. Don’t believe us? Check out the biggest events in sports and races in Chicago. From pro-beach volleyball tournaments and golf championships, to yachts competing in the oldest annual freshwater distance race in the world.

NIKE Tournament of Champions
July 10-12
McCormick Place

Widely considered the most venerated basketball event in the world, the 2018 tournament will host 752 teams and more than 10,000 athletes and coaches from throughout the United States and Canada. The tournament is the largest single venue basketball event in the world and the largest in the history of men's or women's basketball.

Special Olympics 50th Anniversary
July 17-21, 2018
Solider Field

Events planned include the first-ever Special Olympics Unified Football (Soccer) Cup, a star-studded concert, establishment of a Special Olympics Eternal Flame of Hope monument to symbolize the ongoing drive towards creating inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities, and a Change the Game Day event.

AVP Gold Series: the Championships
August 30-September 2
Oak Street Beach

Chicago has been an annual stop nearly every year since 1983 and is the most frequent location for a beach volleyball tournament outside of California. All within view of Chicago's skyline on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Laver Cup
September 21-23
United Center

Chicago will host the 2018 edition of the Laver Cup — a new, all-star team tennis tournament similar to the Ryder Cup in golf. This will mark the first professional tennis event in the city in over two decades.

Chicago Marathon
October 7, 2018

Approximately 45,000 runners hit the streets of Chicago's downtown and neighborhoods for this annual Bank of America marathon.
