Lakeview

Why we love it

Lakeview’s laidback atmosphere, convenient walkability, and picture-perfect shoreline make it a favorite hang out among locals. And spots like lively Wrigleyville and the area’s historic music theatres make it a major entertainment hub, too.

Explore like a local

  • Catch a movie while enjoying craft beer, a live organist, and vintage surroundings at the Music Box Theatre.
  • The Laugh Factory is a well-known spot to catch emerging and established comedy and stand-up acts, plus surprise celebrity guests.
  • Take a stroll down ultra-charming Southport Corridor, where you’ll find an array of boutique shops and bustling restaurant patios.

Insider tips

Get to know Lakeview: Anchored by a beautiful stretch of shoreline to the east, Lakeview melds several distinct areas — East Lakeview, Southport Corridor, Northalsted, and Wrigleyville (home to the Chicago Cubs and historic Wrigley Field). Each spot offers something unique, but they’re all pulled together by Lakeview’s casual, welcoming feel.

Hit the bustling shopping districts along Broadway in East Lakeview, around Belmont in Northalsted, and the bustling Southport Corridor for tons of shopping and local dining options.

Eat and drink your way through the neighborhood: Live it up with the locals at the seemingly endless array of much-loved bars and restaurants, from Michelin-awarded spots to beloved local taverns.

For a casual bite, DryHop Brewers is a popular stop for house-made beer and bites, BITES Asian Kitchen serves up sushi, ramen, baos, and Asian-inspired tapas, and El Mariachi is known for its lively atmosphere and great margaritas.

For a date-night dinner, Itoko is an elegant spot for sushi and handrolls, The Gundisis a window into traditional Kurdish cuisine, and Coda di Volpe offers southern Italian fare paired with neighborhood charm.

Catch a show: Lakeview is also known as a go-to for arts and culture. If you’re looking to catch some live music, Lakeview is home to a plethora of unique venues. Get dinner and a show at Schuba’s Tavern, catch an up-and-coming band at Lincoln Hall, rock out at The Vic, and dance the night away at Metro.

Explore the lakefront: On a nice day, walk east until you hit Lake Michigan. That’s where you’ll find a 1,200-acre outdoor oasis, featuring the scenic Lakefront Trail, a golf course and driving range, a boat harbor, tennis courts, and grassy fields perfect for picnicking.

This stretch of lakefront is also home to the AIDS Garden Chicago, where you’ll find a striking monument designed by iconic artist Keith Haring.
