Navy Pier is one of Chicago's most famous attractions and welcomes 9.3 million visitors each year.

Stretching six city blocks into Lake Michigan, you need to visit at least once if you want to say you've been to Chicago. While it is a year-round destination, summer is when Navy Pier gets to shine thanks to its free admission, waterfront access and public programming that spans all interests.

Navy Pier Beer Garden

In April and May, keep fit with the Spring into Action fitness series, led by notable instructors from around the city. Keep up with other free activities and seasonal series throughout the spring and summer here

From May 26 to September 1, 2018, hang out in the Miller Lite Beer Garden to sip cold drinks and listen to live music while taking in lakeside views. Don't miss the Aon Summer Fireworks on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when crowds gather along the pier and on the beaches to watch a spectacular show that's synchronized to music (Tip: Check out the specialty cruises to see the show from the water.).

Strolling around is half the fun for all ages, especially in the summertime. One of the highlights is Pier Park, which includes the 200-foot Centennial Wheel, the Pepsi Wave Swinger, a carousel and other rides that will keep you entertained during your trip.

Not enough? Don't worry--there are more cultural attractions to see. In 2018, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater debuted a state-of-the-art facility called The Yard, an innovative space that allows for a wide-range of productions. Explore The Crystal Gardens, a one-acre indoor botanical garden, and Polk Brothers Park is known for its free art installations, movie nights and popup concerts.

Start making your plans to visit in 2019, when Navy Pier will open a new hotel that is a part of the Curio Collection by Hilton.
