The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago is home to one of the nation’s largest programs devoted to the study of contemporary dance, offering a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance, a Dance Minor and a Minor in Hip-Hop Studies. The academic program values the learning partnership between a diverse student body and an award winning faculty, who work together to continuously examine the evolving field of dance. Specifically, the investigation of contemporary dance as it is informed by the relationship between modern dance, hip-hop, ballet, and West African dance.
The Dance Center is also home to a professional presenting season – which brings international, national and local artists to Chicago’s audiences. This includes special public programs with the season artists, pre and post-show conversations, master classes, lectures, demonstrations and panel discussions. The integration of these programs provides Dance Center students with opportunities to interact and learn from visiting guest artists, and to engage the Chicago community at large in Dance Center activities.
