CHICAGO MUSIC

Chicago is famous for legendary blues and jazz, which can be heard nightly in live Chicago music venues throughout the city. But Chicago is an all-encompassing music playground, piping out sounds 7 days a week. It doesn't matter if you're into classical music, hip hop, EDM, or just plain rock n’ roll. Just come with open ears because whatever is on your iPod is also in Chicago.

Jam out at huge concert halls like The Chicago Theatre or Aragon Ballroom, discover up-and-coming artists at revered Chicago music clubs like Metro or Empty Bottle, or settle into a cozy venue like The Hideout or Schubas Tavern.

Mark your calendars too for annual Chicago music celebrations — Chicago Blues Festival in June and Chicago Jazz Festival over Labor Day weekend — are both completely free and set on the beautiful lakefront. The mega fest Lollapalooza puts a global spotlight on Chicago each summer as well. Throughout this season the Chicago music calendar touts more pack-up-and-go events for every genre: Spring Awakening (electronic), Pitchfork (indie-rock), and Windy City Smokeout (country) among them. While the weekend neighborhood festivals are both rich in local talent and light on the budget for the casual music fan.
