Chicago’s hotel industry is booming. Here’s an overview of the city’s new hotels, as well as projects planned for 2019 and beyond.
Recent hotel openings
The Hoxton is located in Chicago’s energetic and food-centric Fulton Market, on the site of a former carmaker and meatpacker. The hotel features 182 rooms, a restaurant and bar, and an inviting rooftop pool. 200 N. Green St.
Located within the former Essex Inn, Hotel Essex offers effortless style, contemporary amenities, and an exceptional downtown location, right across the street from Grant Park and a short walk from Millennium Park, McCormick Place, Museum Campus, and more. 800 S. Michigan Ave.
Hotel Zachary at Gallagher Way
Marriott’s Hotel Zachary at Gallagher Way features 173 rooms and suites in the heart of Wrigleyville. The hotel is located directly across from Gallagher Way and historic Wrigley Field, famed home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. 3630 N. Clark St.
Housed in the old Olympia Building, River North’s boutique Found Hotel offers 60 private and shared rooms, stressing the concept of “limited-service,” community lodging. 613 N. Wells St.
Moxy Chicago Downtown
Marriott’s Moxy Chicago Downtown is a 156-room boutique hotel that harnesses River North’s party vibe and sense of adventure. The hotel features sleek design, trendy interiors, and even a podcast booth. 530 N. LaSalle Drive
The Tower at St. Jane
Thirty-two luxurious rooms and suites comprise The Tower at St. Jane, located on floors 24 through 36 of the new St. Jane in downtown Chicago. Here, guests enjoy not only a stay in Chicago’s landmark Carbide & Carbon building, but also dedicated concierge service and exclusive access to The Nobel rooftop bar. 230 N. Michigan Ave.
This is the first ever tri-branded Hilton, combining a Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, and Home2 Suites. All facilities are linked by enclosed sky bridges, providing access to McCormick Place. Sophy Hyde Park
Sophy Hotel prides itself on being “distinctly Hyde Park.” The name of this 98-room hotel alludes to knowledge, wisdom, and study, which is apropos for the neighborhood that’s home of Nobel Prize factory, the University of Chicago. 1411 E. 53rd St.
The 218-room Hotel Julian is housed in the century-old Atlantic Bank Building just north of Millennium Park. Beautifully renovated, the hotel also features a brand new farm-to-fork restaurant, whimsically named About Last Knife. 168 N. Michigan Ave.
The St. Clair Hotel – Magnificent Mile
As its name implies, the St. Clair is optimally located for exploring the attractions, shops, and boutiques along The Magnificent Mile. This 208-room, pet-friendly hotel prides itself on offering affordability in the heart of it all. 162 E. Ontario St.
Aloft Chicago Mag Mile
Marriott’s pet-friendly Aloft Chicago Mag Mile is built on the site of the city’s former Contemporary Museum of Art (now located at 220 E. Chicago Ave.). The hotel features 337 artful, minimalist rooms and suites. 243 E. Ontario St.
In addition to a 196-room Homewood Hilton, the 29-story Homewood Suites features a separate 85-room extended-stay Wabash Suites and approximately 3,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space. 1101 S. Wabash Ave.
Home2 Suites by Hilton
Home2 Suites by Hilton, a modern extended-stay hotel in River North, is a short walk from Chicago’s top attractions, including the Magnificent Mile, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and 875 N. Michigan Ave., home to the 360 CHICAGO observation deck. 110 W. Huron St.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown South Loop
Located near downtown and the famous Chicago Loop, Homewood Suites places you close to all the action, including sights such as Museum Campus, the McCormick Place Convention Center, and Soldier Field. 59 E. 11th St.
Future hotel openings
Hyatt Place/Hyatt House (October 2019)
A dual-branded 210-room Hyatt Place/Hyatt House hotel will take up residence in the former Cook County Hospital building, along with medical offices, retail spaces, and an on-site museum that charts the history of this historic building. 1835 W. Harrison St.
The Reserve (Fall/Winter 2019)
Plans for The Reserve include a 234-room inn occupying floors 18 through 22 of the historic former Continental Bank building. The hotel will be named for the Federal Reserve Bank that sits right next door. 208 S. LaSalle St.
Nobu Hotel Chicago (Early 2020)
Nobu Hotel will feature the hotel collection’s trademark Nobu restaurant and a “Nobu on the Roof” concept with indoor and outdoor bar space with views of the West Loop’s Restaurant Row. The 115-room hotel also will feature a fitness center, spa, event space, and indoor swimming pool. 854 N. Randolph St.
Navy Pier Hotel (Spring 2020)
This exclusive Curio Collection by Hilton hotel will be located adjacent to Navy Pier’s Festival Hall. In addition to 222 guest rooms, the hotel will feature a state-of-the-art fitness center and a 30,000-square-foot rooftop restaurant, bar, and event space. 600 E. Grand Ave.
Wanda Vista Hotel (Fall 2020)
Vista Tower is destined to become Chicago’s third tallest skyscraper, and the tallest structure in the world to be designed by a woman, architect Jeanne Gang. As part of this “supertall skyscraper” project, the sumptuous Wanda Vista Hotel will feature approximately 210 rooms, a Shui day spa, gymnasium, pool with garden terrace, restaurants, bar, and lounge. 345 E. O’Brien’s Hotel (Fall 2020)
Taking up residence on the site of Old Town’s much-loved O’Brien’s Restaurant and Bar, this new hotel will feature 13 stories, with potential plans for a new O’Brien’s Restaurant anchoring the site, a high-end restaurant on the second floor, and an open-air rooftop bar. 1528 N. Wells St.
Equinox Hotel (2021)
This development project will feature the 165-room Equinox Hotel, a health club, and an apartment tower at the corner of Fulton Market’s vibrant Restaurant Row and the Kennedy Expressway. 725 W. Randolph St.
