Choose Chicago, the city's tourism marketing organization today launched the Choose Chicago mobile application (app), the official mobile app for visitors to and residents of Chicago. The app is a key component of the organization's ongoing branding efforts targeted at the regional, national and international markets to help drive visitation to Chicago, and will also prove useful for residents.
The mobile app is free and is available for iPhone and Android platforms. Download the app via iTunes for the iPhone platform and the Google Play Store for the Droid version or visit www.choosechicago.com/mobile-app.
In partnership with mobiManage, Choose Chicago designed and populated user-friendly features to assist users while exploring the city. Continued enhancements are expected in the coming months. A GPS component delivers immediate results for dining, shopping, theater and performing arts, transportation and more based on a user's location, a plus for locals and visitors.
"Tourism is a key driver of job growth and economic opportunity in the city, and I am pleased that we are embracing technology and finding innovative ways to share more of Chicago with our visitors," said Mayor Emanuel. "This app will help Choose Chicago continue their mission of attracting visitors to Chicago and helping them enjoy the best the city has to offer."
Key features of the Choose Chicago mobile app include:
Events Calendar -filter by Festivals; Millennium Park; Museums; Music; Sports; Theater; Arts and Tours & Attractions. Users may also search by neighborhood, start date and end date.
Tours & Attractions - filter by Attractions and Tours, as well as by neighborhood
Arts, Culture & Entertainment - filter by Museums; Theater and Music & Comedy, as well as by neighborhood
Dining - filter by cuisine and neighborhood
Shopping - filter by Department Stores; Shopping Centers and Specialty Stores, as well as by neighborhood
Nightlife - filter by Bars/Pubs/Taverns; Dance Clubs; Wine Bars, as well as by neighborhood
Sports & Recreation - filter by Professional Sports and Recreational Sports, as well as by neighborhood
"Mobile apps are proving to be an efficient tool to access information on-the-go," said Warren Wilkinson, Chief Marketing Officer for Choose Chicago. Chicago welcomed 43.6 million domestic and overseas visitors to Chicago in 2011. Recently released data from the U. S. Travel Association reveals that visitors to Chicago throughout 2011 generated $12 billion in total direct spending, (up 7.8%) over 2010. That spending yielded more than $725 million in tax revenues (up 17.8%) and more than 128,000 jobs (up 3.1%) over 2010.
