Meeting planners seeking new and culturally significant venues are anxiously awaiting the opening of the Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s historic South Side this summer.
Opening to the public on Juneteenth weekend 2026, the 19-acre campus dedicated to and inspired by the first Black President of the United States will be a compelling new destination for visitors to Chicago.
For meeting and event organizers, the Center promises to be a major draw for attendees eager to explore the major new attraction.
A guide to the new Obama Presidential Center
The opening comes at a time when attendees are craving new and unique experiences. Not only is it an only-in-Chicago venue, but the Center is redefining the traditional Presidential Library experience to reflect that Barack Obama is considered the country’s first president of the digital age.
A 2026 opening is also fitting as it falls in the middle of America’s 250th anniversary. The Center aims to showcase both history and progress, while inspiring future generations to dream big.
“Here on the South Side of Chicago, hope is getting a permanent home,” President Obama said in a statement. “This is not a monument to the past; it is a living destination for people who refuse to accept the status quo. If you feel that way, this is your invitation to join us.”
Here’s how you can transform your meeting into a significant event at Chicago’s newest monumental meetings hub.

Things to do around the Obama Presidential Center

Chicago is a natural home for this important venue, due to Barack and Michelle Obama’s deep ties to the city’s South Side.
The First Lady grew up in the city’s South Shore neighborhood. Mr. Obama’s formative political years were spent as a community organizer and law professor at the University of Chicago.
