Chicago Humanities Fall Festival’s Pilsen Day on Saturday, Sept. 26 takes place at the National Museum of Mexican Art and Thalia Hall and features an impressive list of programs, including a collection of award-winning authors including Emily St. John Mandel and Marlon James. Music-related creatives include Latino music documentarian, photojournalist and curator Ramón Hernández, and a program with cultural historian, DJ, and author Ruben Molina. Conversations around photography include a panel of artists and curators gathering to discuss Chicano Camera Culture, an exhibition highlighting the last six decades of Chicano photography, as well as a program with acclaimed photographer Merrick Morton – best known for his intimate photography of ‘80s Los Angeles barrios and Chicano culture and his still photography for iconic films like La Bamba, Fight Club and The Big Lebowski.
