Chicago Cultural Center Dance Studio Residency June 18, 2026
A program of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) to invest in movement-based artists by providing space, time and funding for the development of new work.
Featuring Chicago Dance Crash
Open Rehearsal with e j e c t and Annie Franklin
6-7 p.m.: Annie Franklin Community Workshop
7-8:30 p.m.: Works in Progress Showing with e j e c t and Artist Talkback
Chicago Dance Crash amplifies diverse artistic voices that collide within the intersection of street dance, concert dance, and physical theater, allowing for new avenues of discovery and innovation in Chicago and on the global stage. The company’s fusion-style works and performing ensemble embody our dedication to being an accessible and innovative dance company, creating intensely physical, authentic, and narrative-driven art.
This engagement will open the studio for community members to observe Annie and e j e c t in their work with the ensemble. Following a free workshop with choreographer Annie Franklin, participants will see firsthand the methods Crash is using to foster collaboration between dancers and musicians, exploring how movement and sound can be built simultaneously. This session will demonstrate how two artistic communities, who are often siloed, can create in dialogue through a shared understanding of music and its composition, a skillset that is especially prevalent in freestyle-based artists.
ASL is provided for the work-in-progress event.
