Mayor Rahm Emanuel once again showed support for the travel industry in announcing that he will not propose to raise the city's amusement tax and hotel tax as part of his 2013 budget. The Public Policy Department at Choose Chicago, along with our first responders, were on the front lines advocating against the increase in both taxes. The Public Policy department thanks our outstanding group of first responders for their efforts.

Since tourism is so vital to the development of local economy and job creation, a raise in the amusement tax or hotel tax would hinder our efforts to attract tourists from all over the world and put Chicago at a competitive disadvantage for valued tourism dollars. This would result in lost revenue for Chicago and could ultimately lead to lost jobs.
