Chicago’s First Portuguese Restaurant Week Celebrates the Flavors and Culture of Portugal
Weeklong Event Brings Chicagoans Together to Discover Portugal through Food and Wine
CHICAGO — Sept. 4, 2026 — Chicago is getting a taste of Portugal as Chicago’s first-ever “Taste of Portugal” Week kicks off Sept. 28 – Oct. 4. During the week, Chicagoans will have opportunities to experience the rich culinary traditions of Portugal through special menus, traditional Portuguese dishes, wine pairings and other events.
Presented in cooperation with the Chicago office of AICEP, Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency, the inaugural celebration will spotlight Portuguese wines, olive oils, tinned fish and seafood and cheeses in some of Chicago’s best restaurants and wine, food and lifestyle retailers.
“Chicago is a city that embraces food cultures from around the world,” says Mario Quina, executive director of AICEP Chicago. “We created Chicago’s first ‘Taste of Portugal’ week-long event to showcase the wines, the food and the warm hospitality that people experience when they visit Portugal.”
A Taste of Portugal in Chicago
During “Taste of Portugal” week, participating restaurants and retailers will offer Portuguese wines and Portuguese-inspired menu items and wine pairings. It’s an opportunity for people to explore beloved Portuguese classics and contemporary interpretations of the cuisine. More than 2 million Americans visited Portugual in 2025 and Chicago is a key departure points with direct flights on TAP Airlines.

The celebration will shine a spotlight on Portugal’s remarkable wine culture, with opportunities to
discover wines from regions including Douro, Vinho Verde, Bairrada, Dão, Alentejo and others.
More Than a Meal
Chicago’s “Taste of Portugal” is designed to be a cultural celebration as much as a culinary one.
In addition to dining specials at participating restaurants, the event will feature a Portuguese
wine tasting class at Bottles Up! and other activities to be confirmed. Additionally, the

such as traditional recipes and other tips and direct people where to purchase Portuguese
culinary and lifestyle products to enjoy year ‘round.
