Comedy Meets Congress: Bushra Amiwala Takes the Stage at The Lincoln Lodge
The Not That Late Show is a POC- and queer-led late-night talk show hosted by Justin Swinson, featuring an ensemble of Chicago comedians debuting brand-new material each month. Taking place every third Wednesday at The Lincoln Lodge, the show blends sketch comedy, sharp interviews, and live music from emerging local artists. Past guests have included State Senator Mike Simmons, Stephanie Skora of the Girl, I Guess Progressive Voter Guide, and Medea Benjamin of CODEPINK. This month’s guest is Bushra Amiwala, candidate for Illinois’s 9th Congressional District.
Bushra Amiwala is a community organizer, public speaker, and advocate for inclusive and effective public service. A Skokie native and daughter of Pakistani immigrants, Amiwala made history as the youngest Muslim elected official in the United States when she joined the Skokie School District 73.5 Board of Education. Now running for Congress in Illinois’s 9th District, she continues her work to amplify young and underrepresented voices in government, champion equitable education, and foster civic engagement across generations.
