Book & Author: The Teacher of Auschwitz with Wendy Holden

Join international bestselling author Wendy Holden for a powerful conversation about her new novel, The Teacher of Auschwitz, based on the true story of Fredy Hirsch. A gifted educator and athlete, Hirsch devoted himself to protecting Jewish children during the Holocaust, even creating a secret school inside Auschwitz.

Holden will be joined in conversation by historian and author Dr. Jake Newsome, whose work explores LGBTQ+ history and memory in Nazi and postwar Europe. Together, they will examine Hirsch’s legacy, his identity as a gay Jewish man, and the extraordinary risks he took to preserve dignity and hope in the face of unimaginable horror.

Holden is the author of Born SurvivorsOne Hundred Miracles, the memoir of Czech musician Zuzana Ruzickova, and other acclaimed works published in over 30 languages.

A book signing will follow the program. Copies of The Teacher of Auschwitz will be available for purchase.

Educators may earn one Clock Hour/CPDU.

Reservations required, free to the public.
