Chicago is known for its shopping. But when thinking about the city's finest shopping hotspots, Magnificent Mile comes to mind.
That's no surprise-Michigan Avenue is home to some of the world's finest fashion houses as well as two malls, The Shops at North Bridge and The 900 North Michigan Shops with hundreds of popular retailers.
But stray from the Mag Mile and that's where the city's shopping scene really shines. From Lakeview to Wicker Park, Lincoln Park to Bucktown, local and smaller boutiques, there's a perfect shop for all styles and budgets.
The Southport Corridor in Lakeview is packed with major retailers and smaller boutiques, with something for every price range and style.
Between Roscoe and Addison streets, shoppers will find stores such as Free People, Anthropologie, Lululemon and Gap. But for a quintessentially Chicago experience, check out one of these four boutiques along Southport.
Mint Julep, 3432 N. Southport Ave.
Like the drink that gives the store its name, Mint Julep is a fun boutique with a bit of a southern flair. Brightly colored dresses and tops line the walls, with stacks of statement necklaces and bracelets filling the spaces inbetween. Find clothing lines such as Michael Stars, Susanna Monacco, Everly and DV Dolce Vita shoes. It's the perfect stop if you're looking to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe without breaking the bank, or pick up a new dress to wear that night. Pieces on average run from $30-$150.
Krista K Boutique, 3458 N. Southport Ave.
Krista K is the epitome of "city cool." The shop has two levels, with new arrivals and more upscale items on the main level and jeans, sale and more casual items below. Recognizable brands such as Rebecca Taylor, Rag and Bone, Helmut Lang and Alice and Olivia cover the first floor offering shoppers sleek evening dresses, lots of leather and Elizabeth and James and Alexis Bittar jewelry to complete the look. The jean selection is a best-of of well-known denim brands, featuring skinnies to boyfriend cuts from Paige, AG, Hudson, J Brand and more. Well-known brands don't come cheap, so expect to set yourself back a couple hundred dollars on any splurge in the boutique.
Splendid, 3510 N. Southport Ave.
If Krista K is for your Saturday night out, Splendid is for your Sunday afternoon in. Though the store is a national retailer, the Southport locale is the only in Chicago and only the second in Illinois. The store and brand are known for its relaxed and casual looks: think slouchy tanks and shirts, basic cotton skirts and structured sweatpants, leggings and super soft maxi dresses. Tanks and shirts average from about $40-$80 with pants and leggings running from $50 to $120 and dresses and skirts retailing up to $160.
She One Boutique, 3544 N. Southport Ave.
If you're not paying attention you might walk by She One, a tiny hot pink-walled boutique nestled slightly below street level. Walk down the stairs into the one-room store to find a feminine selection of dresses, tops, skirts and more.Brands such as Wells Grace, Tulle and Kenzie line the racks where pieces won't set you back anywhere between $40-$150. Like Mint Julep, it's the perfect quick stop to pick up some new items for any season.
