Ahhh . . . summer in Chicago, enjoy it while you can! It's time to dress up in your sweetest sundress and meet up with friends at a rooftop bar, hit Oak Street Beach in your teeny-weeny yellow polka-dot bikini and put your best face forward as you enjoy all the fun festivals, concerts and events left on the summertime menu. Get your ultimate summer glow on with these summer-focused treatments at five of Chicago's best spas.

When it comes to our family dog, Gizmo, sometimes we wonder who rescued whom. Saved from an unhealthy living situation by a local dog rescue organization, he arrived at our doorstep five years ago. Timid and sad at first, he fast became a beloved member of our family. He's our No. 1 squirrel protector and our best walking buddy, and he's always there to offer a warm cuddle and unconditional love. So naturally our family has been delighted to discover two amazing Chicago brunch venues—and even a luxe hotel—that welcome humans and their animal friends with open arms!

As you stroll through the Gold Coast looking through the haute couture in the Oak Street boutiques, you might think “Wow, I’d like to stay awhile and explore the neighborhood.” It’s a capital idea, and the Hotel Indigo Downtown/Gold Coast (1244 N. Dearborn Parkway) is the perfect place to park your bags and put your feet up.

As one walks south on Michigan Avenue from Congress Parkway, a gleaming image emerges on the west side of the street. Beyond the glass facade of the Spertus Museum of Judaica and the buildings of Columbia College, there it is: the Blackstone Hotel, a beacon of good taste and luxury since the day it opened its doors in in 1910.

Located on North Clark Street in River North, the Aloft Chicago City Center is a dazzlingly recent addition to Chicago’s hotel landscape. It’s been open since 2013 and it’s been well received by folks across the hotel industry and from visitors coming into town for conferences, family gatherings and leisurely visits to wander around Michigan Avenue and beyond.

Freehand’s Chicago location is in the heart of River North, where you can find some of Chicago’s best restaurants, shops, and bustling nightlife. The funky boutique hotel is housed inside of a restored art deco building that dates back to 1927. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a group, Freehand has all of the amenities you desire.

It’s always a fun and exciting idea to spend a night or two in the Loop. During the day, you can appreciate the cadence of folks on their way to work or the casual attitude of strolling tourists, architectural enthusiasts and others who might just be taking their time to appreciate Chicago’s details. One of the best places to set up your home base for exploration is the J. W. Marriott Chicago on West Adams Street. Here's a profile of this architecturally-significant Chicago hotel below.
