Explore a world-renowned garden located right in Chicago's backyard. This 385-acre, living museum features 24 specialty gardens and three native habitats set on a series of islands and lakes. The Garden is always in bloom, featuring year-round educational programs, exhibits, tours and special events. Open daily from 8am-sunset. Admission is free; select event fees apply. Parking is $20, free for members. On Tues., senior citizens pay just $7, tax included. Antiques & Garden Fair in April, A Bloomin’ Festival in May, World Environment Day and Taste of Mexico in June, Malott Japanese Garden Summer Festival in August and the Fall Bulb Festival in October. New this year is Butterflies & Blooms. Summer favorites include the Model Railroad Garden, Garden Chef Series, Carillon Concert Series, Hot Summer Nights, Dancin’ Sprouts, Music on the Esplanade; Tuesday Morning Music, and American Flower Show Series. During the holidays, catch the Wonderland Express.

General Information

  • Directions: From downtown Chicago take I-90, the Kennedy Expressway, to I-94, the Edens Expressway. On the Edens, proceed north approximately 13 miles. Continue north on Route 41 toward Waukegan and exit east at Lake Cook Road. Turn right and proceed east one half mile to the Chicago Botanic Garden. The entrance will be on your right at the light, on the south side of the street.
