Chicago Welcomes the 2025 James Beard Awards®, with a Line-Up of Celebrations and Special Events Around the City.
CHICAGO, IL (May 2025) – Chicago proudly celebrates the return of the 2025 James Beard Awards® presented by Capital One, kicking off Friday, June 13, and running through Tuesday, June 17. The city will come alive with a dynamic lineup of events ranging from intimate dinners to large-scale culinary experiences, featuring exclusive menus, high-profile chef and bartender collaborations, educational panels, and more. Co-hosted by Choose Chicago and the Illinois Restaurant Association, two organizations dedicated to championing the city’s hospitality sector year-round, the 2025 celebration features an especially exciting lineup of public programming in honor of two major milestones: the 35th anniversary of the Awards and the 10th anniversary of their arrival in Chicago.
Recognized as one of the nation’s most prestigious honors, the James Beard Awards celebrate excellence in the culinary and food media industries and the broader food system. The Awards also spotlight individuals and organizations committed to equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive.

Open since 2019, Galit draws on chef/partner Zachary Engel’s time growing up in a Jewish household as the son of a rabbi, and his partner Andrés Clavero’s Palestinian background. Focusing on their similar upbringings, the duo’s intention was to create a place centered around community and food as a unifying
force. This March, Chef Zach and Andrés opened a sibling restaurant to Galit called Cafe Yaya. For this occasion, Chef Zach will prepare a three-course brunch of Middle Eastern dishes using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Accompanying wines will be curated by Galit’s beverage director, Scott Stroemer, along with pastries and desserts made by executive pastry chef Mary Eder-McClure.
