Join Cunning Folk Theatre Co. for a new play based on a tale by classic Yiddish author Y.L. Peretz (and the company’s Midwest debut!) In turn-of-the-century Warsaw, a young Jewish writer spends a single day chasing the perfect story to tell his love interest; as his imagination catches fire, stories as diverse as European fairytales, rabbinic parables, and events from Jewish history start to come to life onstage, colliding with some personal memories he’d prefer to leave buried. Will the stories’ end bring closure — or crack his life right open? Presented by Cunning Folk Theatre at Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture in Lakeview, ‘Stories’ is a magical, haunting meditation on how the narratives we inherit — and invent— can shape what comes next for us. Wednesday May 27 and Thursday May 28 at 7pm, Sunday May 31 at 2pm.
