Amanda Christine Harth: The Sacred Place of the Most High September 25, 2026
Psalm 91:1 opens with a promise. A secret place, a space set apart, the safest place a person can be.
Amanda Christine Harth spent a year building that room. It begins where her own memory does, in the smells of a South Side childhood and the church she grew up inside, and opens outward into every tradition that has ever burned something to get closer to God. Frankincense in the temple. Sandalwood on the brow. Copal, sage, cedar, oud. Different centuries, same reach.
Before you enter, you wash your hands at a basin. Inside, you are invited to come close and breathe.
The Sacred Place of the Most High is presented by NAOMI Projects and the Design Museum of Chicago, curated by Justin Dwaun Redding. It is Harth’s second collaboration with NAOMI Projects, following Beyond Blue (2023).
Opening reception Friday, September 25, 6 to 9 PM, with music by Finding IJEOMA and non-alcoholic drinks by KUDÙ Social. RSVP at posh.vip/f/e213f. Artist talk Saturday, October 10, doors at 1 PM. BSA Gold performs Saturday, October 17, doors at 6 PM.
On view daily, 10 AM to 5 PM, through October 23. Free. Incense is burned in the gallery and a custom fragrance runs continuously throughout the run.
