At the Harris Theater for Music and Dance at Millennium Park, all of this combines with a stellar program of local, national and international acts. On any given night, you may be treated to an opera or the ballet, a symphony orchestra or jazz ensemble, contemporary dance or choral music.

Since opening in 2003, the non-profit theater features the most diverse offerings of any venue in Chicago, hosting the city’s most acclaimed institutions as well as world-renowned artists and ensembles through its Harris Theater Presents series.

Through the Harris Theater Presents series, the Theater has hosted the biggest names from around the globe, including Daniel Barenboim, Mikhail Baryshnikov, the New York City Ballet, Paris Opéra Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Stephen Sondheim and Pinchas Zukerman.

Dance Highlights

A sublime lineup of Chicago debuts and Harris Theater premieres from national and international sensations includes:

  • Beijing Dance Theater, widely recognized as China's leading contemporary dance ensemble, presenting the powerful new work Wild Grass from company Artistic Director Wang Yuanyuan (October 28 + 29, 2014)
  • The State Ballet Theatre of Russia, now under the direction of award-winning dancer and Moiseyev dance company soloist Nikolay Anokhin, presents one of the greatest classical ballets of all time Swan Lake in a full-scale production (January 23-25, 2015)
  • Restless Creature, a new collaborative work from New York City Ballet's Wendy Whelan, featuring choreographers Kyle Abraham, Joshua Beamish, Brian Brooks, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Resident Choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo (January 21, 2015)
  • Alonzo King LINES Ballet's two distinct programs featuring live musical accompaniment: the collaboration between LINES Ballet and Israeli mezzo-soprano Maya Lahyani, and a new work pairing the neoclassical dancers with double bassist and composer Edgar Meyer (March 4 + 5, 2015)
  • Scottish Ballet in the company's staging of their contemporary adaption of A Streetcar Named Desire (May 7-9, 2015)

Music Highlights

A broad spectrum of music performances boasts one of the most ambitious music offerings to date, featuring many of today's leading musicians, ensembles, and organizations from around the world, including:

  • Chicago solo recital debut of Israeli Pianist Inon Barnatan (November 3, 2014)
  • Historic North American Debut of Teatro Regio Torino, led by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, in a concert production of Gioachino Rossini's William Tell (December 3, 2014)

  • Luna Negra Dance Theater, a company that celebrates the richness and diversity of Latino culture through the creation of works by contemporary Latino choreographers

  • Music of the Baroque, consistently positioned among Chicago’s leading classical music groups, one of the few groups of its stature in the country devoted to the performance of eighteenth-century works
