Mop & Bucket Blues
“Mop and Bucket Blues” examines the importance of sports and creative arts programming by bringing awareness to Chicago’s inner city gun violence, poverty, food insecurity, absentee fathers, and the lack of funding in high-crime areas. This production seeks to shed light on the potential of theater as a powerful medium for social change and education reform.
“Mop and Bucket Blues” is the cleaning up of the blues, the sorrow, the pain of what’s going on in our community …in the inner- city high schools. That’s where the blues come in. The Mop and Bucket is trying to get to our blues. This play is more than a stage performance; it’s a warning siren. It’s a testimony, a declaration that the lives of our children are not disposable. And now stands as a call to action, a mirror to society, and a tribute to every student who has ever felt forgotten inside a broken school system.” L.A. Holts.
