Petalo: The Myth of Us June 26, 2026
Petalo: Myth of Us is a solo exhibition by artist Quetzali exploring identity, transformation, emotional inheritance, and self-reclamation through mixed media painting, installation, and self mythology. Supported in part by a grant from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).
The exhibition includes a large tulle maze installation suspended from the ceiling with projected film elements exploring the “petal mythology” present throughout the work. The centerpiece is a 9’x6’ mixed media painting of a winged cherub-like figure symbolizing becoming your own savior.
Quetzali is a Mexican-born, Chicago-based mixed media artist whose work explores identity, migration, memory, and reclamation through personal mythology and organic symbolism. Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, her practice examines emotional transformation, ancestry, and the act of consciously creating oneself through dreamlike imagery and immersive visual worlds.
