Mary Halvorson’s Canis Major April 20, 2026
Acclaimed avant-garde jazz guitarist and composer Mary Halvorson leads a brand-new quartet project, Canis Major. She will be joined by Dave Adewumi (trumpet), Henry Fraser (bass), and Tomas Fujiwara (drums) for this Chicago premiere, which features all new compositions.
Praised for her distinctive sound and innovative approach, Halvorson received a 2019 MacArthur Foundation fellowship and Guitarist of the Year honors in the DownBeat Critics Poll for the past nine years. Nate Chinen of NPR Music celebrates Halvorson — “nobody sounds like her.”
All Mix at Six performances begin at 6:00 p.m. and are about 60–75 minutes in length. Audience members are encouraged to stick around after the performance to meet the featured performers and mingle with one another. With food vendors and drink specials (allowed in the hall!), it makes for the perfect weeknight outing.
