Chicago’s Music + Movement Festival celebrates the wealth of dance companies that are thriving in this city. But even for listeners who wouldn’t know a pirouette from a silhouette, this event at the Auditorium Theatre features a wonderful opportunity to check out exciting new projects from Chicago’s diverse groups of musicians.

American Girl Place Chicago

The spring season is one of the busiest for the American Girl Store, located at 835 N. Michigan Avenue in Water Tower Place. The window displays are filled with flowers and dolls dressed in their spring best, reminding us all that summer is on its way. Many families plan their visits to Chicago around a shopping spree at this beloved store, and many Magnificent Mile Hotels offer special perks for visiting girls and their dolls. Here are seven don't-miss spring events and workshops at American Girl Place Chicago.

The Katydids

"There's something about a girl named Kate," Caitlin Barlow told me. And if there's something about one, just wait until you see six of them.

Individually, the Katydids are Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O'Brien and Katie Thomas. Together they're one of the hottest comedy groups in the country.

Chicago Beer Festival

It's springtime in Chicago, you can tell by our new website background. If you're into sunshine, seasonal layering and the start of baseball season, Chicago's the best city in the world to celebrate the beginning of April. This weekend we have a pre-Broadway show to see, some regional IPA's to drink and a few designer gowns to buy. Kick it with us this weekend. It'll be fun.

Easter Bunny at Macy's

Every spring, Macy's on State Street bursts and blooms with the spirit of the season. The annual Macy's Flower Show features florets from around the world - from Palace Roses to Hinoki Falsecypress - and a wonderful array of workshops and related events. This year's show will usher in spring with its lovely in-store garden through April 7 and it's inspired by the exotic architecture, gardens and spirit of South Asia.

Pitchfork Music Festival

Lollapalooza tickets went on sale yesterday and - much to the dismay of this writer - sold out in a matter of minutes (don't worry single-day tickets go on sale April 9). Alone and heartbroken, I remembered the wise words of my grandfather who always used to tell me, "Where one music festival door closes, another one opens." As it turns out, the old man was right. Pitchfork Music Festival announced it's full lineup and, just like grandpa promised, tickets are still available

Animal Inside Out

Last week, I took my son and his friend, both age 11, to the Museum of Science and Industry's newest must-see exhibit: Animal Inside Out A Body Worlds Production. The exhibition explores the anatomy, biology and physiology of creatures large and small, with a few humans thrown in for good measure. Admit it. You're curious.
