For their 10th anniversary year, the Hyde Park Jazz Festival will bring national, international, and critically acclaimed local performers to a dozen venues through out Hyde Park.
This year's Festival will feature a very special performance by Randy Weston at the Rockefeller Chapel on September 25 to celebrate his 90th birthday and close Saturday's activity. Weston is a visionary and innovator whose impact on jazz and world music is immeasurable.
To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, the Hyde Park Jazz Festival is pleased to partner with the Reva & David Logan Center for the Arts to commission MacArthur Fellow, composer and alto saxophonist, Miguel Zenón, to compose a series of pieces to be performed with Chicago's own Spektral Quartet.
As part of the 10th Anniversary celebration, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, in collaboration with the Hyde Park Art Center, invites several visual artists to create and install work on the Midway Plaisance. This project builds on the Festival's initial intent to explore unique and architecturally significant spaces and animate them with jazz and community.
