Fashion Focus CHICago

The fall season might be cooling things down in other cities but Chicago is heating up with Fashion Focus CHICago, the city's 10th annual Chicago Fashion Week, Oct. 4-12. The nine-day event celebrates all aspects of the Chicago fashion scene, including designers, boutiques, stylists and models at venues all over the city. There's always a good mix of free and ticketed events that feature runway shows, fashion markets, demonstrations and workshops but this year also showcases cultural attire from Latino, African and Haitian cultures as well as a collaborative art and fashion exhibit.

Bom Bolla

At the end of my college career, I spent one glorious semester in beautiful Barcelona, Spain, where I got to know about the native wine of the country's Catalonia region quite intimately. There, a love of cava was born that has stuck with me ever since. The answer to my Spanish wine-loving prayers has mercifully arrived in the form of Bom Bolla, a new cava bar in Wicker Park.

North Coast and Riot Fest dominated the first half of Chicago's music calendar in September, but the latter half of the month which bridges into October offers a fresh season's worth of treasures. At the end of Riot Fest comes the last breath of summer: the air begins to nibble, though not yet bite, driving local musicians and music-lovers into the comfort of cozy cafés, underground bars, and other warm and intimate spaces.
