Ruth Duckworth: Life as a Unity

Ruth Duckworth (1919–2009) was an innovative Chicago sculptor who was deeply engaged in the natural world and the scientific advances happening at the University of Chicago in the 1960s and 1970s. This exhibition—the artist’s first retrospective since 2005—foregrounds her sculptural production through nearly 60 objects, including earthy vessels, majestic large-scale murals, and nearly translucent porcelain sculptures.

Ruth Duckworth: Life as a Unity is part of Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art that highlights the city’s artistic heritage and creative communities.
