Fred Jackson Jr’s “Jazz” Quartet


Join us for Logan Center’s Third Tuesday Jazz Series season presented in partnership with the Hyde Park Jazz Society with Fred Jackson Jr (saxophonist), Michael Allemana ( guitar), Matt Ferguson ( bass) and Isaiah Spencer ( drums) in an intimate performance in Café Logan.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fred Jackson Jr, Musician / Educator / Multi-instrumentalist / Composer attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and had the opportunity of studying with the world renowned jazz clarinetist, Alvin Batiste, becoming the first graduate of his AA in Jazz Studies.

Fred became a member of AACM, began performing overseas, including Poland, Germany and France. He was in one of the first ensembles of The Bridge that played at the MCA. He returned to school and received his Masters in Jazz studies from DePaul where he studied with Mark Colby, Dana Hall, Dr Robert Lark Tom Matta (composition) and many other professors.  He  studied extensively the music of the African diaspora for ten years, mainly the north and west. Magic Carpet Band allowed me the opportunity to study music from all over the world particularly Ethiopian and music of the Middle East. Chicago has allowed him to play all types of music from House, Funk, Jazz, and many other genres. Chicago also gave him the opportunity to study the music of Cuba by performing with many Afro Cuban bands in town culminating in a visit to Cuba with the ‘Hot House’ in 2017.”

He continues to work on his publishing label, Spacetonic Music, performs with Magic Carpet (Chicago), Sitarist Shanta Nuerulla, Mai Sugimoto Quartet, Adam Zanolini’s Heliacal Rising Of Sothi, AACM’s Great Black Music Ensemble (directed by Mwata Bolden), his band Erudition Project, and the newest ensemble “Where’s Charlie.” He holds the title, Dean of the AACM School.

ABOUT THE SERIES
The Hyde Park Jazz Society selects local jazz musicians and those with a Chicago connection to perform on the third Tuesday of every month at Café Logan. The Café will offer its full menu for purchase, including wine, beer, and a coffee bar. Third Tuesday Jazz is presented by the Logan Center, Hyde Park Jazz Society, and 90.9FM WDCB Jazz Radio.
