In the latest lineup of AAA ratings, six restaurants and five hotels in Chicago earned the highest (Five Diamond) rating. All six Chicago eateries are veterans of the group's Five Diamond ranking, including Acadia, Alinea, Everest, Grace Restaurant, Sixteen and Tru. The list of Chicago hotels to make the AAA Five Diamond designation include Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, Langham, Peninsula Chicago, Trump International Hotel & Tower, Waldorf Astoria Chicago. Also, 15 restaurants and 31 hotels in Chicago earned the Four Diamond designation.
In its recent roundup of the world’s best shopping cities, Condé Nast Traveler nods to Chicago for its luxurious Magnificent Mile and trendsetting Wicker Park neighborhood, naming it one of the best shopping cities in the world.
According to a recent Chicago Tribune article, Chicago could expect a major boom for new hotel openings in 2015. Ted Mandingo, president of TR Mandigo & Co., a Chicago-based hotel consulting firm, predicts about 4,500 room additions to the existing 36,000 rooms in the Chicago area. Laurence Geller, founder of Geller Investment, added, "We have an opportunity in 2015 of having the best year ever in the city with regard to hotels." January marked the debut of Virgin Hotel Chicago, and Chicago is slated to welcome several other major brands throughout the city.
United Airlines announced in December new nonstop flights between Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Rome, starting May 16, 2015. The seasonal service will operate five times weekly through June 3, daily from June 4–August 17, and six times a week from August 18–September 23, 2015.
On January 4, the retrospective exhibit David Bowie Is ended its run at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and with it, concluded the most successful exhibit at MCA in its 47-year history, which drew a record 193,000 people.
THE LANGHAM HOTEL NAMED BEST HOTEL IN U.S. BY TRIPADVISOR
TripAdvisor, the tried-and-true travel website, recently announced its lineup for the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice awards for hotels. More than 8,100 properties in eight regions received recognition in the 13th annual awards, which are based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews. The Langham, Chicago earned the No. 1 spot on the U.S. hotels list. The 316-room hotel opened in 2013 and has been impressing guests with its impeccable service and prime location.
O'HARE NAMED BEST AIRPORT IN NORTH AMERICA BY GLOBAL TRAVELER
O'Hare International Airport has received the Global Traveler GT Tested Reader Survey Award for Best Airport in North America for the 11th straight year. The honor was the result of a survey taken by business travelers. The complete survey consisted of questions pertaining to 70 categories related to airlines, hotels, airports, loyalty programs and other travel-related topics.
