TECHNOLOGY FOR EXPEDITED CUSTOMS CLEARANCE EXPANDS TO MIDWAY
The Chicago Department of Aviation announced that Midway International Airport will launch the innovative Automated Passport Control (APC) program, which helps travelers move more quickly through the U.S. border clearance process through the use of self-serve kiosks. The move follows the implementation of the technology at O'Hare, where wait times for arriving passengers have successfully be reduced. The technology will be available at Midway starting in the first quarter of next year.
NORTHERLY ISLAND PLAN NAMED ‘GREAT PLACES' WINNER
The Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) awarded SmithGroupJJR and Studio Gang Architects a 2013 Great Places Award for their development of the Northerly Island Framework Plan. The vision is to transform the island into an urban destination that exemplifies ecological sustainability and restoration. The plan separates the island into four zones that transition from urban and active to natural and passive. One the north, visitors can enjoy a new amphitheater, harbor walk and event pavilion. On the south, natural landscapes or prairie, marsh and woodland, will be reestablished, as well as a reef-protected lagoon. Initial construction on the park began in spring 2013.
CHICAGO LANDS POWERSPORTS EXPO
Chicago will be the new home of the International Powersports Dealer Expo, which will be held at McCormick Place December 5-7, 2014. The Dealer Expo expands from its longtime home in Indianapolis after organizers determined they needed a larger venue to improve the experience for attendees. Chicago brings "exciting opportunities and benefits to attendees and exhibitors," Advanstar Powersports Group said.
