One of America’s leading resources for event and meeting professionals has published a list of the events that made the biggest impact on Chicago in 2016. Top entries include the Chicago Auto Show, NeoCon and Lollapalooza, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.

The Construction Managers Association of America (CMAA) has named the newest runway built at O’Hare International Airport as the National Project of the Year. The runway has improved O’Hare’s east-flow arrival and departure rates, reducing delays as well as airport noise in communities around the airport.

For its 29th annual Readers’ Choice Awards, Condé Nast Traveler readers voted Chicago the second-best city in America. This marks an upvote from last year, with Chicago surpassing San Francisco to snag the #2 spot.

The “Oscars of the Food Industry” has renewed its partnership with Chicago for an additional four years (it was previously scheduled to finish its Chicago run in 2017). The James Beard Awards first came to Chicago in 2015 – the first time ever appointing a host city outside of New York City.

Chicago now has increased connectivity with two major Asian cities thanks to new routes added to O’Hare in November. Taipei-based EVA Air will offer four weekly routes to Taiwan, while Japan’s largest airline, ANA, has added two daily nonstop flights between Chicago and Tokyo Haneda, the closest airport to Tokyo’s city center.
