Chi-Town Rising, Chicago's newly-announced New Year's Eve celebration, announces the headline musical acts to perform this New Year's Eve on the event's Countdown Stage. Corona Extra is the Presenting Sponsor of Chi-Town Rising and Hyatt Gold Passport is the Official Host Sponsor.
The Chi-Town Rising Countdown Stage will go live at 8:00 p.m. with multiple artists taking the stage in the run-up to the television broadcast on NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago. As midnight approaches, and a giant Chicago star rises skyward up the West Tower of Hyatt Regency Chicago, the stage will feature the talents of alt-rock musical artists American Authors and legendary rock band Chicago®.
A 2014 Billboard Top New Artist with Billboard's No. 1 Adult Pop Song for 2014 with "Best Day of My Life," American Authors will open the TV performance set in the final hour of 2015 on the Chi-Town Rising Countdown Stage. On their debut album "Oh, What a Life," singer Zac Barnett, guitarist James Adam Shelley, bassist Dave Rublin, and drummer Matt Sanchez weave in everything from hip-hop grooves and Afro-Latin rhythms to dance- pop synths and Queen-inspired vocal harmonies - all while staying true to a rock-and-roll energy and melodic sensibility that's highly refined. Featuring their breakout hit song "Best Day of My Life" and follow-up single "Believer," the sunny yet soulful "Oh, What a Life" is also built on a magnetic sense of optimism that's carried American Authors from their formation at Boston's Berklee College of Music to their down-and-out early years in Brooklyn to their current status as an internationally touring band on an ever-growing rise. The band's new record will be released in the New Year.
Currently nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2016, the legendary GRAMMY® Award winning rock band Chicago® will usher the city into the New Year with a midnight performance. Taking place along Upper Wacker Drive, Chi-Town Rising is a new tradition for celebrating New Year's Eve in Chicago. The broadcast will be centered between Michigan Avenue & Columbus Drive, with the Countdown stage directly in front of the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Taking place along Upper Wacker Drive, Chi-Town Rising will be anchored by the main stage. NBC 5 Chicago and Telemundo Chicago will broadcast the event live starting at 11:08 p.m. and Telemundo Chicago will begin at 11:00 p.m. The broadcast will feature musical performances, a dazzling countdown with a 70-foot tall Chicago Star rising 360-feet into the night sky, and an epic fireworks display linking the event site with Navy Pier's annual fireworks in one grand display synchronized to a musical soundtrack.
