CHICAGO, IL (December 14, 2015) - In collaboration with the Chicago Cultural Mile Association, Chi-Town Rising, the city's inaugural New Year's Eve celebration, invites families to ring in 2016 in Wrigley Square at Millennium Park beginning at 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Thursday, December 31. The event will culminate in the "Kids Countdown Spectacular" at 6 p.m. Admission to the Chi-Town Rising's Family Countdown Celebration is free.
"By introducing Chi-Town Rising to Chicago, our goal is to create an inclusive New Year's Eve celebration worthy of Chicago and all of its people," said John Murray, President & CEO, Arena Partners, the private production company behind Chi-Town Rising. "We're thrilled to partner with the Chicago Cultural Mile Association to invite the families of Chicago to celebrate with us throughout the day."
Drawing from the theme "Around the World for New Year's Eve," revelers to Wrigley Square in Millennium Park can visit activity stations that feature New Year's customs from countries around the world including China, Thailand, Denmark, Colombia, Lithuania, Egypt, Scotland, Japan and Italy.
Additionally, the Park Grill at Millennium Park has sponsored live entertainment featuring Kids' Karaoke with Bizar Entertainment from 3-5 p.m., followed by an interactive performance by WTTW's Dr. Cool & Pride: The Big Show from 5-6 p.m. The performance will build to the grand finale at 6 p.m. - the Official Kids Countdown Spectacular! Party goers can also enjoy free hot chocolate and coffee, sponsored by Remington's.
"The Chicago Cultural Mile Association is delighted to be teaming up with Chi-Town Rising to offer families a fantastic complement to the late-night festivities around Chi-Town Central and still provide an exciting way for families to ring in the New Year," said Sharene Shariatzadeh, Executive Director, Chicago Cultural Mile Association.
The featured Chi-Town Rising festivities at Chi-Town Central will begin at 7 p.m. Chi-Town Rising features Countdown Stage on Broadcast Boulevard (Upper Wacker Drive) with an evening musical entertainment followed by the midnight countdown. As the countdown begins, the Rising Star will ascend 36 stories up the Hyatt Regency Chicago's West Tower, culminating in the fireworks show.
Chi-Town Rising will be broadcast live on NBC 5 and Telemundo Chicago for those wishing to view the event for free. Those interested in attending the event live have multiple options for securing a guaranteed spot, including purchasing tickets to the outdoor audience area, the Corona Beach House party, or other partner events nearby. Official Hotel Partners have packages available that include admission to the event as well. Chi-Town Rising is a privately-produced, ticketed event and no public areas for viewing the Countdown Stage and Rising Star have been formally designated.
At 70 feet tip-to-tip and rising 360 feet in Chicago sky, the Rising Star is truly the star of the show. Located on the west tower of Hyatt Regency Chicago, the Star will overlook the TV audience zone on Broadcast Boulevard and Corona Beach House across the Chicago River.
