Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced Chicago has been named the nation's #2 travel destination in Condé Nast Traveler's 29th annual Readers' Choice Awards. Among the list of the nation's top large cities, Chicago moved up from last year's third place ranking, passing San Francisco. The news follows last week's announcement that the James Beard Awards are extending their stay in Chicago.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and James Beard Foundation President Susan Ungaro today announced the annual James Beard Awards ceremony and gala will be held in Chicago through 2021. Previously scheduled to finish its Chicago run in 2017, the foundation is renewing its partnership with the city for an additional four years.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Choose Chicago President & CEO David Whitaker today announced Chicago saw record tourism performance for the first three quarters of 2016. The results demonstrate strong performance in both leisure and group segments during the period of Jan. 1 through Sept. 30. Overall demand for the first three quarters of 2016 is up 2.2 percent. Leisure room demand has set records in each of the three quarters of 2016, boosting overall demand year-to-date. September alone saw demand growth of 6 percent.

Choose Chicago President & CEO, David Whitaker, today announced that Marc Anderson, most recently Chief Sales Officer of Choose Chicago, was promoted to Executive Vice President of Choose Chicago.

In accepting this expanded role, Anderson will continue his oversight and direction of Choose Chicago's convention sales team. In that role, Anderson and the team are responsible for annually booking more than 2.5 million room nights, including confirming more than 55 new meetings annually into McCormick Place, North America's largest and most flexible convention center.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Choose Chicago President & CEO David Whitaker today announced record tourism performance for July 2016, driven by strong demand from convention and leisure visitor segments. Overall hotel room demand increased 2.7 percent compared to last July, even while hotel room inventory grew by an equal 2.7 percent. The numbers build on 2015's record-breaking overall performance, which generated more than 4,500 new jobs.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Choose Chicago President and CEO David Whitaker today announced record tourism performance for June 2016, driven by strong room demand from convention and leisure visitors. This demand growth pushed occupancy to 89.5 percent, only the third time on record that occupancy rates for the month of June surpassed 89 percent. At the mid-way point of 2016, overall demand set a record level of more than 5 million room nights, a gain of 1.1 percent over last year's record performance.

CHICAGO, IL (July 25, 2016) - Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Choose Chicago President and CEO David Whitaker today announced the return of the American Society of Association Executives' (ASAE) Annual Meeting & Exposition to Chicago from August 18-21, 2018. Approximately 7,000 association professionals from across the U.S. and world are expected to attend the convention that will bring in more than $16 million in estimated direct expenditures. Chicago last hosted the ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition in 2007.

Choose Chicago President and CEO David Whitaker today announced the appointment of Ken Bennett as Senior Advisor, Public Policy and Community Affairs for Choose Chicago effective Monday, July 11. In this new position, Bennett will be responsible for fostering and maintaining relationships with local community leaders and state officials to enhance Choose Chicago's role in local and state tourism and economic development. Bennett most recently served as First Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of the Office of Public Engagement for the City of Chicago's Mayor's Office.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Choose Chicago Board Chair Desiree Rogers today named David Whitaker as President and CEO of Choose Chicago. Whitaker most recently served as chief marketing officer for Brand USA, the nation's official destination marketing organization based in Washington D.C., where he oversaw the fully integrated marketing campaigns in 14 international markets as well as Brand USA's international trade offices.
