Pizza City USA Tours
  • Chicago is a pizza town, no doubt about it, and who better to create a pizza tour through the region’s best pizza places than the guy who wrote the book on the subject? Steve Dolinsky is a 13-time James Beard Award-winning food reporter who’s lived in Chicago for more than 25 years. He’s had more than his fair share of pizza for his work as the Food Reporter at ABC 7 News, Co-Host/Producer of The Feed Podcast and travel writer for The Chicago Tribune. Steve truly earned his “Hungry Hound” moniker when he embarked on his epic Pizza Quest in 2015 which led to his book, "Pizza City USA:101 Reasons Why Chicago is America's Greatest Pizza Town." As a result of his research for the book, Steve created Pizza City USA Tours in 2018. Tours are curated from a local’s perspective. There are three public tours each weekend available for booking - a coach tour every Saturday morning year-round (limit 24) and walking tours Saturday and Sunday (limit 16) mornings Spring through Fall. Tours allow for the purchase of beer or glass of wine as well as Pizza City USA merchandise. Every tour visits 4 different pizzerias, showing guests four different styles of pizza in about three hours. Private and corporate coach or walking tours are available for groups of 12-100 people. Private pizza tours typically include 3 pizza stops in 3 hours or less and can be all inclusive of food, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, transportation, doughcent, tax and tip. All doughcents share the history of Chicago pizza, and other unique features of each pizzeria we visit including ovens, dough construction, noteworthy toppings and neighborhood history.
