Since its inception in 2017, the Get Growing Foundation had been the cornerstone of year-round education and outreach for the Chicago Flower & Garden Show®, an annual event with roots dating back as far as 1847. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Flower & Garden Show was canceled just days before its planned opening in March 2020.

Now as a stand-alone 501c3 nonprofit organization, the Get Growing Foundation strives to bring green and green education to communities in and around Chicagoland with a particular focus on underserved communities and today’s youth.
We inspire, educate, and motivate the next generation of plant lovers through community outreach, approachable experience-based learning, and horticultural job skills training.

In August of 2019, GGF launched Plant Truck Chicago a mobile plant boutique pop-up that travels in and around Chicagoland.

June of 2021, saw the creation of the Get Growing! EXPO, presented by Wintrust, a series of 3-day events that brought garden displays, free greening and gardening classes, and workshops plus access to plants to three neighborhoods.
