Broadway In Chicago

Broadway In Chicago brings some of the world’s biggest plays to the stage at various historic Loop theaters. At the CIBC Theatre, you can catch the smash hip-hop musical Hamilton through September 2. Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Weber’s spellbinding sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, makes its premiere on February 14 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (on show through March 4). And based on one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time, Pretty Woman: The Musical makes its pre-Broadway world premiere at the Oriental Theatre from March 13-April 15.

Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks

Goodman Theatre

The Goodman Theatre in the Loop is known for its culturally introspective plays. On stage from May 25-June 24, Father Comes Home From the Wars is a Civil War epic about a slave torn between following his master into the Confederate army to win his freedom or remaining enslaved on a plantation. The play was written by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Founded by actor Gary Sinise, Steppenworlf features a star-studded ensemble that includes John Malkovich, Joan Allen and William Petersen. From April 5-May 27, the Steppenwolf presents the world premiere of The Doppelgänger, an irreverent farce that takes a timely look at the political back-room deals that shape our world. Ensemble member Gary Cole (from the hit HBO comedy Veep) stars.

Lookingglass Theatre Company

Lookingglass Theatre Company on the Magnificent Mile pushes the boundaries of theater, incorporating dance and circus arts into its performances. Actor David Schwimmer, who played Ross on the hit TV show Friends, is a co-founder, ensemble member, and director. Schwimmer will be back in Chicago to direct the world premiere of Plantation! from February 21-April 22. This witty play follows the fallout when a Texas matriarch reveals the complicated history behind her family’s ancestral home.

Michael Shannon

A Red Orchid Theatre

Located in Old Town, Red Orchid presents the world premiere of Traitor from January 7-February 25. An adaptation of Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, the play takes place in a northern suburb of Chicago, where a newly opened charter school causes suspicion and rancor in the community. The production is directed by ensemble member and Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Shannon.
