The Way the Mystic Sees Exhibition
On Sept. 6, Weinberg/Newton Gallery will open the inaugural exhibition to take place at the gallery’s new location in Chicago’s River West neighborhood. Titled The Way the Mystic Sees, the exhibition is presented in collaboration with Human Rights Watch and surveys contemporary artistic interpretations of technological surveillance. Featured artists include Nadav Assor, Nick Cave, Mary Helena Clark, Max Guy, Christopher Meerdo, Asa Mendelsohn, Catherine Sullivan, Maryam Taghavi, and Marilyn Volkman, among others, in media ranging from text to photography, works on paper to video work. Totaling 6,300 square feet, the new location devotes 2,400 square feet to exhibition space and makes Weinberg/Newton Gallery one of the largest non-commercial galleries in Chicago. The exhibition will be free and open to the public beginning with a reception on Friday, Sept. 6 from 5 – 8 p.m.
