The Alley, Chicago’s Iconic Punk Store, Marks 48 Years with a Block Party

CHICAGO – The Alley, Chicago’s venerable punk institution and sanctuary for local misfits, proudly announces its 48th-anniversary celebration on Sunday, June 9, from 12:00 to 6:00 pm. Acquired in 1976 by Mark Thomas, The Alley has evolved over nearly five decades to become the Midwest’s premier destination for bikers, punks, goths, rockers, and aficionados of alternative lifestyles.

Block Party Highlights:

  • Chicago Hardcore Hearse Club Annual Car Show Competition: Admire the Chicago Hardcore Hearse Club Collection of insane hearses and watch as they compete for the trophy and an actual casket.
  • Live Music: Experience the vibrant sounds of local bands, including Animal Factory, Highdiver, and Schrachee, as they fill the streets with music.
  • Unique Atmosphere: Walk the hearse-lined streets and explore vendors offering one-of-a-kind treasures in The Alley parking lot.
  • Fashion Show: Witness an alternative fashion showcase reflecting the diverse styles that The Alley has championed over the years.
  • Local Artists: Explore the thriving local art scene, featuring artists like Jon Langford, Walter Fydryck, George Chakos, Frank Mascenic, Kirk Rohbaugh, Courtney Boatwright, Tim Hartford, and Adam Helman.

About The Alley Family: The Alley, Music Factory & Art Colony

Mark Thomas, the visionary behind The Alley, is not only a purveyor of punk culture but also an avid art collector. His travels worldwide have inspired The Alley’s eclectic offerings and fueled the establishment of the Art Colony and Music Factory in the ’90s.

The Art Colony serves as a sanctuary for renowned and emerging artists, offering a supportive environment for creative expression and collaboration. It is a hub for local talent, providing a platform for artists like Jon Langford, Walter Fydryck, George Chakos, and Kirk Rohbaugh and emerging talents such as Courtney Boatwright, Tim Hartford, and Adam Helman.

The Music Factory, a hidden gem within The Alley family, has been a breeding ground for local bands for decades. Bands like Animal Factory, Highdiver, and Schrachee have garnered loyal followings but have remained under the radar until now—their electrifying performances at the upcoming block party promise to be a highlight of the celebration.
