Revival: Presented by I-94 with Deep Joy
Both I-94 and Deep Joy are celebrating their conception. REVIVAL features two stages, indoor and outdoor environments, food trucks, and vendors. We invite music lovers of all ages to join us in dance and joyful celebration of Chicago, Detroit, and their contributions to electronic music.
LINEUP
I-94 honors the profound musical and cultural connection between Chicago and Detroit, the birthplace of House and Techno. Much like the physical interstate, the architects of electronic music established a highway linking these prophetic sites. Through a biweekly mix series alternating between Chicago and Detroit talent and live events, we pay tribute to the enduring Midwestern legacy. We nurture the descendants of these pioneering musical movements and cultivate the next generation of selectors and producers.
I-94 prioritizes Black people, women, trans, queer, and POC artists while welcoming all who are invited. The mix series is the heartbeat of our initiative, but I-94 represents a broader vision: a vibrant tapestry that connects artists, preserves and celebrates legacy, and builds a living archive. Central to this tapestry is our commitment to investing in and redistributing resources to local communities, whose foundational contributions to global culture and capital success, much like in electronic music, have been erased, poached, and overlooked. As electronic music’s popularity and revenue potential have surged, many of its original pioneers have been financially and historically forgotten. We seek to redress this imbalance, weaving these crucial stories and contributions into the fabric of this project.
Deep Joy is a new collaboration and residency between CTRLZORA and VITIGRRL (Chicago). United by our shared passion for deep house music and all things profound—conversations, movement, deep grooves, rhythms, and sounds across genres—we believe in the transformative power of musical joy to heal and nourish. Our residency will offer a vibrant space where analog and digital sounds converge. Blooming this fall, with no cover charge, Deep Joy is a sacred place where deep musical experiences are accessible to all.
The First Presbyterian Church of Chicago was organized in 1833, predating Chicago’s incorporation by two months, making it the city’s first church and its oldest continuously operating institution. The current building, located at 6400 S. Kimbark, was constructed in 1927, though the congregation has relocated several times throughout its history. The breathtaking church grounds offer multiple rooms for both serenity and celebration, indoors and outdoors. Today, the First Presbyterian Church holds Sunday services and welcomes artists and community members. We ask that all who enter, especially those invited by I-94 and affiliates, treat the space with respect and reverence.
