Orlando has savored all that life could offer to an exquisite young nobleman. He is discontent despite romances with Elizabeth I, a Russian Princess, and countless maidens, until he awakes in the body of a woman. Orlando must adapt to the social and political constraints of femme experiences across centuries, all while searching for who she truly is, with whom she needs to be, and how she can express herself. Adapted from Virginia Woolf’s classic novel, Sarah Ruhl’s Orlando is a physically and poetically lyrical exploration of place, time, privilege, and living beyond the gender binary.
