Mummies & Martinis
Oct 24

The Oriental Institute Museum marks its Centennial anniversary this fall and, to celebrate, the OI Young Professionals Board will host its first-ever “Mummies & Martinis,” a pre-Halloween happening, Thursday, October 24, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Along with Halloween-themed beverages and a DJ-led playlist, a highlight of the evening is certain to be the small-group tours of the OI’s unique (and highly Instagram-able) mummy collection led by UChicago Egyptologist Foy Scalf, including the coffin and mummy of the Egyptian singer-priestess Meresamun. Additional objects on display are a colossal statue of King Tut, a section of The Book of the Dead papyrus, and the coffin of the overseer of the troops Ipi-Ha-Ishetef. A suggested donation of $15 includes hors d’oeuvres and two drink tickets; advance registration is recommended.
