Maya Marshall in conversation with Nicole Homer


Haymarket Books is a radical, independent, nonprofit book publisher based in Chicago.

Maya Marshall (she/her) is the author of All the Blood Involved in Love and cofounder of underbelly, the journal on the practical magic of poetic revision. She has taught at Northwestern University and Loyola University Chicago, and holds fellowships from MacDowell and Cave Canem, among others. Marshall’s writing has been published in Boston Review, Crazyhorse, Best New Poets, and elsewhere. She teaches at Emory University.

Nicole Homer (she/they) is a New Jersey-based community college educator, poet, writer, and performer. Their collection, Pecking Order, explores race and gender politics in the domestic sphere. A fellow of Callaloo, Tin House, and Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Homer serves as a Contributing Editor at BlackNerdProblems.com. They are currently working on their next project, Fast Tail. She lives online at nicolehomer.com and lurks on social media as @realnicolehomer.

This is a hybrid event, which will be offered in-person and via livestream. A recording of this event will be made available on the Poetry Foundation website after the event.

In-Person Attendance:

All guests over the age of two must wear a mask inside the Poetry Foundation building. Guests over the age of five must show proof of vaccination and booster up to the level to which they are eligible for their age group. Guests over the age of 18 must show ID alongside their proof of vaccination. If you cannot meet these requirements, you will not be granted entry to the event. Please note that some performers may choose to perform without a mask. Guests are encouraged to register in advance.
