Manet and Modern Beauty
  • The first Chicago exhibition of Édouard Manet’s work in more than 50 years—and the first to concentrate on the artist’s late career in the 1870s and early 1880s— showcases Manet’s evolution as an artist who drew inspiration from the fleeting vagaries of contemporary fashion to capture the distinctly modern and eminently artificial beauty of his time.

Through over 70 paintings, pastels, and works on paper, Manet and Modern Beauty illustrates the late flowering of Manet’s talent as he put his work, ever responsive to the moment, under the sign of contemporary femininity.
