Lecture by Losang Samten: “Ancient Teachings in Modern Times: Buddhism in the 21st Century”
The Heritage Museum of Asian Art, in collaboration with TIBETcenter, invites you to join us for an evening lecture with Lama Losang Samten. This lecture will focus on topics covered in his 2010 book, Ancient Teachings in Modern Times Buddhism in the 21st Century. Buddhism, one of the world’s major religions, is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who is known as the Buddha. Lama Samten will delve into the profound teachings of the Buddha, offering a friendly and accessible journey towards greater joy and peace. The ancient teachings of Buddhism are encapsulated in what is often referred to as the “Four Noble Truths,” focusing on the concept of suffering and how to overcome it, and the “Eightfold Path,” commandment-like steps to find peace and enlightenment. These teachings emphasize the importance of personal responsibility, ethical behavior, meditation, and self-awareness as the means to overcome suffering and achieve enlightenment. Attendees will learn about the history of Buddhism and how its ancient teachings can still be applied today. Discover how Buddhist ancient teachings remain relevant in modern times and how they can help individuals from all backgrounds and religions find inner peace and happiness through the practice of loving-kindness and compassion. Explore the potential to unlock the ‘Buddha within’ and free oneself from suffering.
The lecture is free to the public.
