Highland Park’s Max’s Deli is hosting a fundraiser on Tuesday, February 13 from 5-8 PM for Joey’s Food Fight, as its founder, Jo embarks on his next feeding mission trip to three orphanages in central Mexico February 14-March 15! Joey’s Food Fight fundraiser will be held atMax’s Deli, 191 Skokie Valley Road in Highland Park, where 100% of the money raised will go directly to supporting his mission to cook for, and aid orphanages in central Mexico.
The family-friendly event invites all ages to enjoy a tour of Mexico, from delicious food such as a taco bar, ceviche station, tostada bar, salad station, churros and hot chocolate bar, micheladas and margaritas, to live mariachi music, Mexican folklore dance, and a chance to take a swing at an authentic homemade Mexican Pinata.
While the event is free to attend, donations will be accepted at the door. Suggested donations are welcome to fulfill such needs as:
- Feeding one child for a day $30
- Feeding one child for a week $200
- Feeding one child for a month $800
- Purchasing and install a four stove top burner with oven $1,800
- Purchasing and install a reach in freezer $1000
- Purchasing and install a refrigerator cooler $1,250
- Purchasing and install a generator $5,000
- Purchasing and plates, forks, spoons, knives for 30 children: $100
- Purchasing pots, pans, cooking utensils for each orphanage $300
While in Mexico, Morelli will work on-site with the residents of the orphanages to grow, shop for, cook healthful meals, and build working kitchens. His first stop will beCasa Hogar Pan de Vida in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico, which provides a home-like environment to their 50 boys and girls who have been victims of abuse and neglect. Morelli will then go toCasa Hogar Esperanza Parati, a neighboring orphanage that is home to 24 children who have suffered abuse or abandonment. His trip will conclude atCasa Infantil Ammi, an orphanage that serves 12 children from situations of mistreatment, abuse and abandonment to have access to a better quality of life and a functional family unit.
Joey Morelli is a former Food Network “Chef vs. City Chicago” contestant, radio host, Board member of Stand Up for Kids Chicago, and owner of Highland Park’s belovedMax’s Deli. When Morelli is not traveling to orphanages around the world, he is actively involved in cooking and feeding homeless and refugees throughout greater Chicagoland. He is currently working with Catholic Charities, The Chicago Help Initiative, Debora’s Place, Orange Tent City, and Stand Up for Kids Chicago, to help provide food on a weekly basis. Morelli’s local outreach over his 30 year career sparked his desire to grow his movement into an international one, thus taking Joey’s Food Fight to Cambodia in 2022, Ukraine in 2023, and now plans to visit Mexico later this month.
