Diaper Brackets for Good

Share Our Spare, a non-profit organization that helps ensure every Chicago area child from ages 0-5 has the essential items they need, will kick off its second annual “Diapers Brackets for Good” challenge on March 25 alongside the start of March Madness. The challenge, open to individuals and organizations alike, puts participants head-to-head to see who will secure the most diapers that will then be distributed to families in need.

Each week, participating teams or individuals will be matched with a competitor to see who can collect the most diapers, with each diaper purchased equal to one point. At the end of the week, the competitor with the most points moves on to the next round, culminating in a face off to crown the 2024 Diaper Champion.

The second-place teams throughout the tournament still have a chance to win the slightly less coveted title of Duty Hero in the alternate Do Your Duty bracket. Winners of both brackets will receive recognition on a plaque that will hang on the wall at SOS headquarters, where it will be visible to the organization’s more than 5,000 visitors and volunteers each year.

Once the challenge concludes, SOS and its partners will work to distribute the resulting supply of diapers to families in need throughout the Chicago area. SOS provides more than 150,000 diaperson average every month to parents facing poverty, in addition to other key baby care items. This amounts to approximately 18% of a family’s diaper need each month—a significant improvement when the cost of diapers typically equals 14% of a low-income family’s monthly take-home pay.

Registration for the diaper brackets is open until March 25. Interested participants can learn more and sign up by emailing Executive Director Alex Goodfellow at:
