Confluence: Chicago Riverwalk Concessions Program
  • City Winery at the Riverwalk presents Confluence, a new pop-up series on the Riverwalk between Lake and Orleans/Franklin where the three branches of the Chicago River meet, offering the public yet another way to enjoy the bustling Chicago Riverwalk. Confluence will be held every other Wednesday beginning July 18 with a season-ending Oktoberfest Celebration on September 12.

Each pop-up event will feature wine made locally at City Winery Chicago, beer from Pilsen’s Moody Tongue Brewery, and cocktails served from Ketel One’s bike bar – a nod to the historical significance of the Confluence District as the location was once home to the first three original taverns in the city of Chicago. Non-alcohol beverages will also be available for purchase.

Chicago bassist Tony Piazza and his jazz trio will provide entertainment at the first Confluence on Wednesday, July 18 with additional performers TBA ahead of each event. Attendees can shop the Storefront on Sixty Third’s Rolling Racks mobile thrift store during any of the event dates. Rotating Chicago City Market vendors will sell a variety of items at each event, including unique Chicago-made products and rare finds.

The City of Chicago recently set up Adirondack chairs at the Confluence location. The chairs, made from recycled plastic, provide a leisurely way to enjoy river views. The area is also the site of a new a public art installation, Black Tiberinus, by critically acclaimed Chicago-based artist Robert Burnier.

"While the Chicago River is the spine that connects many neighborhoods throughout our city, the only experience many residents had with it was when they drove over it or saw it from a distance.” says Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “Through a series of investments, including the Riverwalk, we've made the river Chicago's next great recreational destination. The Riverwalk now spans over a mile and a quarter from Lake Shore Drive to Lake Street, providing residents direct access to the river and a variety of dining, entertainment, and recreational options.”

Opened in 2012, City Winery Chicago is a fully operational winery, restaurant with outdoor patio, concert hall and private event space located in the heart of the West Loop at 1200 W. Randolph, in the historic urban Fulton Market district. Once a refrigerated food distribution warehouse, the 1911 building has been transformed into a contemporary 33,000 square foot haven for those passionate about wine, music and culinary arts. The décor evokes the romance of being in wine country, from the exposed stainless-steel fermenting tanks and French oak barrels, to the aroma of fermenting grapes. Chicago’s only fully operation winery has produced dozens of in-house wines sourced from vineyards in California, Oregon, Washington, Argentina and Chile, including a Wine Enthusiast 90-point 2012 Bien Nacido Vineyard Reserve pinot noir and has been recognized with a 2014, 2015 and 2016 Best of Award of Excellence “for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world” by Wine Spectator. The globally inspired, locally sourced, wine-focused food menu is conceived for pairing and sharing. The concert hall accommodates up to 300 guests, all seated at tables with complete beverage and dining service, ensuring a comfortable “listening room” experience enhanced by a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. Riedel is the official and exclusive provider of glassware, showing City Winery’s commitment to enjoying quality wine in a quality vessel. American Airlines is the Official Airline and Virgin Hotels Chicago is the Official Hotel of City Winery.

City Winery Chicago brings what they do best in the West Loop to their Riverwalk location. The menu features a diverse wine, beer, and cocktail list along with food created to pair with wine.
